Once upon a time, famous songwriters banded together to form their own unions; much like electricians formed a union in 1891. Like every union, these groups banded together to ensure their royalty fees did not reach unfairly low levels. These songwriter unions are called Performing Rights Organizations, or PROs.

If you own or manage a retail store of any kind, you’re very familiar with how PROs work. You know that when you play a radio in your store, you have thereby created a “public performance” of those popular songs. And thus a royalty is now due to the author & publisher of those songs.

Here at NonPRO music, we think there’s nothing wrong with musicians getting paid for their music getting used. As musicians ourselves, we believe in that.

But somewhere along the way ASCAP and other PROs have become too inefficient to service small business owners. And somewhere along the way ASCAP and other PROs created policies that may be great for the Beatles, but not so great for emerging artists blazing their own trail.

Every track in our catalog of over 5,000 tracks was composed by musicians who are NOT members of any Performing Rights Organization. Our music falls outside the jurisdiction of PROs; who make it difficult for restaurateurs and entrepreneurs to succeed.

When you use our music, you are legally protected from - and do not have to pay - ASCAP, BMI, PRS, Artisjus, RAO - and the other PROs listed below - to use the music in your retail store, restaurant, coffee shop, mall, etc.
